March Updates

The P2 board met for our March meeting, and we wanted to ensure that all member were kept in the loop regarding content that was discussed, upcoming socials, and other misc. information that we find helpful to those of you involved in the club. I will try to get a monthly post up soon after our meetings, so feel free to check in frequently to stay up to date.

The club will be ordering P2 logo sunglasses through Maxx (see below) for $20 per pair in both black and white. We will be allowing members to order through the store on WePay once things are ready to go in that realm, and will have them available for sale at socials or other various P2 events.

The club also has custom-made tri suits and jerseys for sale. Place your orders as soon as possible as we need at least 5 of each to ship. The store will be closing on March 29th to ensure that orders will be available for those involved in the HITS series in May. Here are the steps to access and order from our team store:

1. Go to www.pactimo.com

2. Click on Custom Team Apparel

3. Click on Log in/Team Store

4. Enter the Team password (pptcstore)

5. Set up a new personal user account from there, if you don’t already have one.

(Please not that all order are final so please double check sizing before hitting send.)

Welcome to 2013

OK folks here is my first post to our website. I am hoping to get on here about once a week to give us some updates and keep everyone in the loop. Two things you should know #1 I am a lousy writer, so if you are thinking you will get something along the lines of the Canterbury Tales you will be VERY disappointed. #2 I was a TERRIBLE English student I can’t spell and my use of punctuation is terrible so bear with me. So here are some things you should know

#1 Our club social is tomorrow at 6:30pm at Mathews Chiropractic 120 E Las Animas CS CO 80903

Join us for a talk by Jeff Mathews on ART to treat muscle pulls, strains and over use injuries (not that any of us have those). ART is Active Release Technique and gets into the muscle and really stretches it to help with injuries. Club members have gone to Jeff for things such as a calf muscle pulls and ART is amazing. Hope to see everyone there. This will be awesome. Jeff is a runner and multiple Ironman finisher so he knows what we put our bodies through and was voted one of the countries top ART practitioners by Runners World magazine!

#2 In Sponsor news we have added Maxx Sunglasses (a local Monument Company), TriSports.com, Successful Massage, Karbon Speed (bike wheels) to go along with Boulder Running Company, Bicycle Village, and Pactimo. Please let me know if I am missing anyone. Also if you know someone who would like to be a sponsor please have them contact me.

#3 If you are going out for a training ride or run please try and put the information on our facebook page. It is always more fun to go for a run or a ride with a group.

New way to pay for your upcoming membership renewal!

Introducing WePay

The club is excited to introduce a new way to pay for your club membership, online through WePay. WePay provides a secure method for you to pay for your membership with a debit or credit card or with a bank account. You don’t need to create an account if you don’t want to, and your information is secure. WePay is better for the club than Active.com was since they take a much lower percentage of each transaction, which makes a difference for small clubs like ours.

So on the topic of renewals, you may or may not have heard, but the membership period will be changing from May to May of each year to February 1st to January 31st. All current memberships will will expire as of the old May 31st of 2012. At that point you will need to renew your membership, which will then expire on January 31st of 2013. To offset the shorter membership period for that year, dues will be reduced by $10 for each type, so an individual membership will cost $15, and a family membership will cost $25 (for renewing members only).

we hope that this will only be for this year, and that by next year we will have the systems in place to move to a rolling membership period, so that your membership is valid for one year from the day you sign-up (or from your current period end date if a renewal). We also hope to have a complete online solution to the membership forms and liability waivers, so that you won’t have to pay then print, sign, and send the forms yourself. We are getting there, but the system isn’t ready for prime-time yet.

Thank you all for your patience, and if you have any questions, please feel free to let us know through the contact page.

National Challenge Competition Wrap-Up

Each year USA Triathlon sponsors an “off-season” Club challenge to help keep its members motivated and active during the months of December, January, and February. This is the National Challenge Competition. We compete against clubs of similar size and try to log as many swim, bike, and run miles as we can. Our Club has participated the last 3 years and for our size and number of participants, we put up some impressive numbers.

For the 2011-12 Competition, we had 33 of our club members participating.

The overall results were that we came in 16th out of 88 clubs:

Miles are weighted (10 for every 1 mile swimming, 1 for every mile on the bike, and 3 for every mile run.)

In our division we placed 5th:

Keep in mind that we have a relatively low club member to participant rate, so a lot of these clubs above us could have twice as many people participating.

AND our very own Branden Rakita came in 10th overall for the male participants. Way to go, Branden!!

Now for some shout outs to specific participants on our team who logged tons of miles (these are the unweighted values – so actual distance.)

The swim the top members logging over 100,000yds (or m) in 3 months are:

  • Branden Rakita   – 142,700m
  • Tracy Douglas – 122,500yd
  • Bob Oliver – 108,675yd
  • Brent Tutton – 106,100YD

The bike had some awesome performers as well. Here are the club members who logged over 1000 miles on the bike during the winter.

  • Joe Turcotte – 2471
  • Branden Rakita – 2428
  • Tracy Douglas – 1455
  • Steve Vaughan – 1137
  • Nate Dicks – 1042

Finally, we had a few rockstars on the run. These are the club members who logged over 350 miles running. (There were also quite a few logging between 200-275 miles!)

  • Kelly Ping – 404
  • Todd Norman – 371
  • Branden Rakita – 356

Once again – a HUGE THANKS to all participating members. Every single mile logged helped the team! Let’s try to double our participant numbers for next year!

For full results, check out the National Challenge Competition website.
